How it all began
Over those years, Jon ran pubs, bars and restaurants (Michelin Guide no less!) around Oxfordshire and the South West, before settling in Bath, where he became an account manager for a large national drinks company and even started his own successful wine tasting business. All the while he would spend as much time as he could, helping out in the family wine producing business in beautiful Devon – an idyllic way of life and an experience that would prove invaluable.
Marc, meanwhile, was busy building up a drinks wholesale business in the centre of Bristol, where he was born and bred. Through that he met a whole host of beer, wine and cider producers from near and far – some wonderful characters – all with a great passion for what they did, which he always admired and something which rubbed off on him.
Eventually, our paths crossed through work, and we discovered we shared the same values and thoughts about the drinks business. But one thing puzzled us both… there are so many fantastic local beers here in Bristol – so why was there hardly any choice in the way of cider? In a city so well known for its love of the beautiful drink?
The apple seed was sown…
And so, with the kind (free) help and mentorship of some of those great friends and industry titans we met along the way, Bristol Cider Co was born.
It’s all about the taste
Our aim, first and foremost, was to concentrate on the quality of the product. The taste just had to be right and Jon’s expertise in wine tasting came in very handy. After years of running tasting events and high-end gastro pubs, he knew exactly what would go down well with customers.
And just as importantly, we were safe in the knowledge that our combined customer service skills were unbeatable (still are!).
Since starting out in 2017, Bristol Cider has been featured on:
- James Martin’s Saturday Morning show (he cooked a lovely pork dish with the Steam cloudy cider).
- Alan Titchmarsh’s Love Your Weekend (a cocktail was made using our Rhuby rhubarb cider).
We’ve built up a great trade customer base in Bristol, Bath and Cardiff. You can now buy a pint of Bristol Cider in lots of great local bars and restaurants (and we even started sending to pubs further afield in 2025). Our online trade has also grown a lot since we started – our mornings always start with packing the orders to send out!
But we also enjoy getting out and about to Food Festivals, and of course we’ve loved our stall at Bath Christmas Market for the past few years. We’ve seen some fantastic places and met lots of really lovely people who’ve become regulars at the events!
New for 2026
Jon and Marc will be out and about throughout 2026 as usual, with lots more Food and Drink events planned. Check out the News page for updates on where and when.
